Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes can affect more than just your blood sugar, it can also damage your eyes. One common eye problem caused by diabetes is diabetic retinopathy. It happens when high blood sugar damages the tiny blood vessels at the back of the eye, which can affect your vision.
At first, you may not notice any changes in your eyesight. That's why regular eye check-ups are so important, even if your vision seems normal.
If diabetic retinopathy is found early, it can often be treated. Depending on the condition, treatment may include controlling blood sugar, special eye injections, laser treatment, or surgery.
If you have diabetes, make sure to have a complete eye examination at least once a year. Early detection and timely treatment can help protect your vision and prevent serious eye problems.
